I think this is my favourite of the three stories.A decent mystery with the serial killer and the interesting thoughts of the victims. Lots of dead ends and then little steps forward. The many relationships develop more, especially Bruce and Bastien. The Mardi Gras parades provide humour with the collection of the beads, toys and other items, as well as providing the murder scenes. The blurb does give a hint of what is to come and I did spend time wondering who. Perhaps the recovery was a bit quick but worked with the story.3.5/4*

This is first book that I have read In this series and I have to be completely honest and say that I have been missing out if the previous two books are anywhere near as good as this book was. Scotty Cade blew me away with the book and especially one major event that took place. This book in my opinion did not have two main characters like most books do but instead had four main characters. The series itself revolves around Beau and Tollison. But in this book it also revolved around Bruce and Bastien also. These four men have such complicated pasts. They are so intertwined in each other lives and their is definitely good times in the past but there is also a lot of pain that is in all four men's past. Beau and Tollison are now life partners and they are also partners in their investigation company. But in the past Beau and Bruce where together and it ended horribly because Beau was neglective of Bruce putting his old job ahead of heir relationship and Bruce messed up by having a one night stand with someone else.Tollison and Bastien were also together at one point and as like the other two men, it also ended badly between them.So it is hard sometimes for both Beau and Tollison to except that their exams are together now but both men are trying to let go of their past and except their parts in them and move on and be happy for them. When a serial killer starts killing gay men at Mardi Gras all four men plus Auggie are in the case trying to figure out who is behind it and catch the killer before anyone else dies. But they realize too late when one of the main characters is also targeted and does not escape the crosshairs of the killer. Scotty Cade blew me away with this book. I enjoyed reading it so much that I will go back and read the previous two books even though I know the outcome. I was also blown away because it is rare that one of the main characters is actually targeted and hurt/killed like in this book. I like that Scotty brought a bit of reality to the book by making the characters more on the real side with how things turned out. I was also impressed to with how the book ended. Scotty pretty much left it where there can be another book in the works or if it ended with this one, Scotty made it seem like life went on and it ended that way. This was a very good read and I hope there will be other books in the series. If so I will be the first to jump at it to read. Was given this galley copy for free for an open and honest review

*´¨✫)¸.•´¸.•*´¨)✯ ¸.•*¨) ✮ (¸.•´✶ (¸.•Tell me it's not over!!! I thought I was enamored of The Royal Street Heist and could not get enough of Veiled Loyalties, but man oh man, A Lethal Mistake just bought it all home. "I'll teach these (expletive) queers a lesson."With those words, danger was once again bought to the lives of the Bissonet/Cruz family. Every officer knows not to get relaxed during Mardi Gras and neither do Beau and Cruz. When they are called upon to help solve the murder of several men at different points of Mardi Gras, there is no time like the present to form a united front. It was supposed to be a joyous celebration. The gang was back and Bastien was in town to claim his man. Bruce could not be any happier. He needed to know whether the feelings he had for Tol's ex burnt just as bright as it did when they rescued him months earlier. But their romance gets put on hold as Auggie and Bruce try to solve the murders with little clue to go by. When things get overwhelming, Beau is bought back to NOPD, and along with Tol, the gang goes full amour to bring in a killer. To life, love and new beginnings."When one of their own is targeted, the team and Bastien do all they can to bring justice home and put aside animosity and hurt to solve the case. This was two love stories and intrigue at every turn. I appreciated Scotty Cade's ability in telling each couple's story, while maintaining the integrity of the book. When times got rough, each had to shed feelings no matter how hard. As Tol said: "We're friend--no, we're family." And together, they pressed forward as one.I encourage anyone who likes second chances, romance and suspense in their read to grab this book and the others in this trilogy. What happens when four exes come together? Lots of raw feelings and emotions, remembering what went wrong and blaming. Longtime friend, Auggie, has to face old emotional wounds too: losing partners, friends, and the break-up of Beau and Bruce.Bastien Andros and Bruce Jenkins first met in Zurich during a rescue mission. They spent time together after the rescue, until Bruce had to leave for New Orleans. Even though they kept in touch, Bastien has made the trip to see where things will lead between him and Bruce.Madri Gras is supposed to be a festive time in New Orleans, but not this time. There’s a murderer on the loose, and Tollison and Beau join Auggie and Bruce in the investigation. It also takes a toll on Bastien and Bruce’s time together. Bruce gets a little insecure and just doesn’t know how he and Bastien can manage a relationship. When tragedy strikes this group of friends, will they be able to forgive and forget the past, and move forward in love and happiness?I love Scotty Cade’s stories, especially the books in the Bissonet & Cruz Investigations series. To get a thorough look into these four characters and their friends, I highly recommend reading The Royal Street Heist and Veiled Loyalties first. The stories are well written, easy to follow, and always have danger and humor. I thought the setup of this novel really gave a good look at the murderer’s POV, and there’s no better location for a thriller than New Orleans.Reviewed by Maryann for The Novel Approach Reviews

Another suspenseful Bissonet & Cruz investigation from Scotty Cade. Besides trying to catch a serial murderer, four ex's are still dealing with raw feelings, emotions and what went wrong in their relationships. Even Auggie has to face some emotional wounds too. When tragedy strikes this group, will they be able to forgive and forget?Absolutely a favorite series for me and no better place to be than New Orleans.

While the last book felt a bit rushed to me, the third installment of Bissonet & Cruz had everything I liked in the first book. We learn more about Bruce, who felt like the third wheel in the other books. And we see how the dynamics between Beau and Bruce and also between Tolliver and Bastien change for the better thanks to their respective partners, who see the things that have gone wrong in the past from an outside perspective. The case around Mardi Gras was great. The victims thoughts right before they died were a nice addition. You feel sorry for them, but you know you cannot help them. The only hope that's left is that the boys will solve the case before another murder happens.Auggie felt a bit off in this book. In the other books I had the impression that he was quite a bit older than Bruce and Beau and that he would soon retire from the police force. Here he felt younger, like he was around the same age. And why was he suddenly so "you homos this, you homos that". Didn't always sound like he was joking. Finally I'd like to add that I think you can read 'A Lethal Mistake' without having read the other two books. Things that happened and which are relevant for the book are shortly explained by the author.

Complicated, Complex, CompleteI would assume that this series may not be over for one reason: The man on the cover has to be Bruce, whose ex-lover Beau graced the first cover and Beau's new lover Tollison had to be on the second. That leaves Bastian, Bruce's new lover, with a cover-to-come. But if Scotty Cade is through with this quartet, he could not have come up with a better plot, or as complicated a bunch of mid-30s men seeking the true meaning of love. And in this one, you get everything you expect from this series: Complex plot, consistently good sex, and characters you will always love. There is no need for me to outline the plot--but there is every need for Scotty Cade to let us know if this is the end. If so, kudos. If not, we can only anticipate how what he will conjure up next.

Another wonderful book in this series by Scotty Cade. A serial killer is planing to take out his selected victims at the mardi grass parade...Beau, Tollison with Bruce and Sebastien sort out a few more last grievances with their ex's boyfriends together.. I loved Beau and Tollison's funny banter throughout the book. With Bruce and Beau and Toll and the rest of the team, can they catch the killer before they strike again. A sad part at the ending but in a good way, I will miss. Sorry I speak in riddles you need the book. I'll look forward to the next case in crime in this great series.

I enjoy all of Scotty Cade's book very much. This is a continuation of two other books but can still be read alone because it is it's own story. I enjoy the characters and the mystery to the story along with the glimpse of Mardi Gras. The people want what is best for everyone but each has their own personal flaws that make them unique.

Good conclusionI am glad Bruce got his HEA. Just show that even when we make mistakes there is still second chances at love. The story had a good plot and was well written.

One of the few series I'm keeping up with. I can't wait for the next adventures of Bissonet&Cruz Investigations. This series gets better and better, not a mystery unsolved or romance conquered!
